Illness Policy

Parent will be called to come and get their child if:
Fever of 100 or higher
Difficulty breathing or constant coughing
Vomiting or diarrhea
Severe or constant pain
Signs of serious communicable disease
How long should you keep your child home? This is based on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction guidelines.
FEVER:
Until child is fever free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication and child feels well enough to participate in normal school activities.
VOMITING:
Keep child home until 24 hours after last vomit.
DIARRHEA:
Keep child home until they have had less than 2 loose stools in 24 hours.
COUGH/SHORTNESS OF BREATH:
Continuous coughing or wheezing that causes chest pain should be evaluated by a medical provider (who can clear the student's return to school).
HEAD LICE:
Keep child home until all live lice are removed. Remove as many nits (eggs) as possible. Child can return to school with nits. The school nurse will check the child's head when they return. Continue removing nits daily until they are gone.
CHICKEN POX:
Keep child home until all blisters have scabbed and are dry.
STREP THROAT:
Keep child home until 24 hours of antibiotic use and free of fever for 24 hours.
INFLUENZA:
Keep child home until fever free for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication and child feels well enough to participate in normal school activities.
